Christmas Market

At last, Christmas Market has finally happened again after being cancelled for three years due to pandemic.

Grade 1s were excited for this day. We originally planned games in this day. We brainstormed games and even voted for three as class choices.

However, changes were made to ensure safety and good health of every member of the school community. Having four days left, Grade 1s were all worried as to what to make for that day.

Again, suggestions came and we came up with bracelet (crochet) and hair ties. The product of our hard work finally were displayed. We were hoping that everyone liked our hand made goods.

Santa Has Come to Grade 1

The Grade 1s had been very eager to get a glimpse of Santa at school. They were all looking forward to getting their presents from him. They believed that they had been nice kids all year long.

On Thursday, 15th December 2022, Santa's signature laughter, HO HO HO, filled Grade 1 classroom. All students had been very nice this year so they all received interesting books from him.

Body Percussion

In PE, we have been doing Dance and Movements as connected to the unit of inquiry. After doing the Waka Waka dance, the grade 1s this time explored body percussion or making sound by tapping or moving parts of their body. This activity also helped the students see the connection between rhythm in music and rhythm in dance. They counted the beats and from it, based the steps they made and the transition from one movement to another. They also came up with their own 15-second body percussion set of steps.

Music is Feeling

"Music is Feeling." - Mr Baron

This was the main statement that struck the class when they had a session with one of our parents, Von Baron.

In this session done during Music class, Mr Baron showed the Grade 1s how to create music using drums. They worked on rhythm. They imitated the sound of the forest. They danced to the tune. All the grade 1s got the chance to hold and play at least one musical instrument, and as a class, they played harmoniously.

It was a wonderful experience to learn from a music expert.

St. Nikolaus Day

From morning of this day, the Grade 1s had been very keen to find out if Santa Claus was coming to school. They knew from home that it was St. Nikolaus Day. They looked outside the window to check if 'he' will pass by. One of the students even said, ' I am hearing sounds of bell. They said that one clue that Santa is here is when you hear the sound coming from small bells."

It was funny to think that we had this moment of joy too when we were kids. The school fully supports bringing joy to our young learners. On St Nikolaus Day, the Grade 1s played a scavenger hunt to find clues that will lead them to where Santa dropped his presents.

At the end, they were happy to know that Santa dropped his presents - oranges (Mikan) at Mr. Inman's office.

It's December!

It's December which means that Christmas is near. This month has been more fun because of the activities prepared by our Christmas Team together with the active PTA.

This event started off with the Advent Calendar activities and some treats.

PIN the tail on the reindeer, pictionary, jumping to the front and 1st of December special gift are the first activities unlocked.

A Better Show and Tell

This week's Show and Tell had been a very interesting and engaging one for the learners. They appreciated the new system wherein they pair up and share information about the things they brought for 3 minutes, and when the class bell rings, they find another classmate to share information with for the next 3 minutes again.

They said the time length of time is just enough. They also enjoyed choosing someone to share their objects with. They prefer this more than the usual one by one sharing done in front of the class.

It will be a lot more fun if everybody brings one items for show and tell. 😊
