SLEEPOVER is over!

Grade 1s had been waiting for this event to happen. Days before the activity, they had shared their plans to bring on that day, activities and games to do with friends, and others. They were teeming with excitement!😊

But what sleepover really is for? In one of our morning circle, we talked about this. Grade 1s have had their sleepovers with friends in their friends' houses. What makes this sleepover different from their usual sleepovers? These are the answers that came from them:

"This sleepover is with the whole class, not just with a few friends."

"It is our first time to do it at school."

"I never had a sleepover with my teachers."

"It is fun to eat with friends and play with them at night time after school."

Their answers said it all. This sleepover is a way to give them a chance to exercise their independence to prepare them for the bigger trip in upper primary. Apart from that, this sleepover is to allow them to create memories that they will remember and cherish when they grow up.

Sleepover is over but the memories it left will last.

STEM WEEK - Building a school on the moon

Grade 1s applied their learning about forces and machines as well as their current lessons about measurement and structures as they worked on their project of building a school on the moon.

During the planning stage, the students considered lack of gravity and oxygen on the moon, so they thought of having a 'gravity control switch' to solve this concern and an 'oxygen dome' where all structures will be housed in so students will have enough oxygen to breathe.

They designed the students' board and lodging place. They thought of having capsule beds for students' sleeping quarters. The capsule beds have built-in radio system for announcements.

They know that lack of gravity may lead to having weak bones and muscles so they also planned a 'fitness area' for the students. The fitness area is composed of a soccer court, an indoor gym and a virtual reality game/exercise.

The students also need to be healthy thus a set of nutritious meal is important. They planned a restaurant to cater for foods and drinks of students. They thought of serving dried foods in sealed pouches.

Lastly, they know that students need to maintain proper hygiene. They designed a washing area where students will use wet hand towel (warm or cold) to wipe their skin. They also designed a toilet where students can do number 1 and number 2.

Together, the students worked in creating these and they are all very eager to see if this idea will be made possible in the future. 😊

Tallest and Strongest Structure

This Week, as part of our tuning in to the new unit under the theme, How We Organise Ourselves, Grade 1s worked in teams to come up with the tallest and strongest structure using straw and tape. They had to do this within twenty minutes. Their work outputs were put into test after.
