HALLOWEEN 2022

Today, the school celebrated Halloween in its simplest and most fun way.

The Grade 1s dressed up in costumes. They get the chance to show their creativity by dressing up as a character from the book, as witches, as ghosts, and others.

They went around the school doing trick o'treating. They watched a video about the history of Halloween. They also did a Halloween dance.

It is really a fun and memorable experience.

I See, I Think, I Wonder

Grade 1s did a Gallery Walk. They looked at different photos of objects from the past. Most of the objects are no longer used or found today. however, they have similarities with the most recent versions invented at present.

Using the Thinking Routine I See, I Think, I Wonder, the Grade 1s shared what they observe on the pictures, what they think is its function and what queries or wonderings do they have about it.

Connecting PAST and PRESENT

This week, we started off with our new unit under the transdisicplinary theme Where we are in place and time. As part of tuning in to the unit, we unpacked the words PAST and PRESENT by looking at words that are synonymous to them. We will continue exploring the past and connect it to present by interviewing parents or grandparents, looking at pictures and sorting them out, inviting resource speaker/s, and others.

Taking care of our sense organs

As we are about to end the unit, Grade 1s now focused on the concept of responsibility. We talked about different ways on how we can take care of our senses. Through discussion and asking people around, the learners were able to share examples of these ways. To consolidate their learning, they were asked to create a poster showing how to take care of each sense organ. They chose pictures from the basket, discussed with their group members why those pictures are good examples of taking care of our senses and made a simple information poster. Afterwards, they showed their posters to their peers who in return provided feedback about their work.
